Newent Railway

The Newent Railway was one of two companies, alongside the Ross and Ledbury Railway, that built the line connecting Ledbury and Gloucester in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, England, after receiving parliamentary authorization in 1873; the combined route opened on 27 July 1885 and was worked by the Great Western Railway. Nicknamed the Daffodil Line, it carried passengers and freight along a former canal route until passenger services ended in 1959, with the Dymock to Gloucester section remaining open for goods traffic until 1964; a skew bridge from the line survives in use today as part of a footpath.
