Neste Corporation is a Finnish energy company headquartered in Espoo, Finland, the world's largest producer of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel. It was founded in 1948 as a state-owned oil company, Neste Oy, to secure Finland's petroleum supply independent of the Soviet Union in the years after the Second World War, and it built a traditional refining and fuel retail business over the following decades. From the 2000s onward Neste redirected substantial investment toward producing renewable diesel and other low-carbon fuels refined from waste and residue feedstocks such as used cooking oil and animal fat rather than new crops, repositioning the company as a major supplier of renewable transport fuel while continuing to operate traditional oil refining in Finland.
