Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is an American mutual insurance and financial services group headquartered at One Nationwide Plaza in Columbus, Ohio, founded on April 14, 1926 as the Farm Bureau Mutual Automobile Insurance Company before adopting the Nationwide name in 1955 as its business expanded beyond its original farm-bureau customer base. The company offers property and casualty insurance, life insurance, annuities, retirement plans and other financial products to individual, business and agricultural customers across the United States, maintaining regional headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona and Des Moines, Iowa alongside its Columbus base. Nationwide employs roughly 24,000 people and ranks among the largest insurance and financial services groups in the United States by revenue.
