National Bank of Canada

The National Bank of Canada is the sixth largest commercial bank in Canada, operating across banking, investment management, wealth management, and insurance. It is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, at 800 Saint-Jacques Street West, with branches throughout Canadian provinces and about 3.1 million clients. The institution traces its origins to 1859, when francophone businessmen established the Banque Nationale, though the modern National Bank of Canada was formed in November 1979 through the merger of two Quebec based banks, Banque Canadienne Nationale and Provincial Bank of Canada, one of the largest bank mergers of that era. The bank trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the ticker NA and is the largest bank in Quebec after the Desjardins Group; as of 2025 it manages 194.47 billion Canadian dollars in assets under management and employs 33,200 people.
