The Myanmar News Agency is the official state news agency of the Myanmar government, based in Yangon. It was established as News Agency Burma in 1963, following the 1962 Burmese military coup, and operates under the News and Periodical Enterprise of the Ministry of Information. It holds the sole right to photograph government-arranged events, including meetings involving opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and government officials, and local Burmese weeklies rely on it for images.
