Myanma Railways, formerly known as Burma Railways, is the state owned operator of Myanmar's national railway network, first established as a rail line in 1877, reorganized as the Burma Railway Company in 1896, and renamed Myanma Railways in 1989. It operates under Myanmar's Ministry of Rail Transportation and runs the country's rail system, including the Yangon Circular Railway commuter service, carrying about 60 million passengers and 2.5 million metric tons of freight a year with a fleet of 384 locomotives, 1,600 passenger railcars and 3,600 freight wagons as of 2013 to 2014 figures.
