The Moscow-Kazan Railway was a Russian railway company, organized as the Moscow-Kazan Railway Association in 1890, that opened its line connecting Moscow and Kazan in 1893 under the leadership of Nikolai von Meck, appointed in 1891 with the backing of Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna. Its Moscow terminal, Moscow Kazansky railway station, remains a major landmark. Reorganized as a separate state enterprise by the Peoples Commissariat of Railways in 1936, the line was merged into the Gorky Railway in 1961, ending its existence as a distinct operating company.
