Lowe's Companies, Inc. is an American home improvement retailer headquartered in Mooresville, North Carolina, tracing its roots to a hardware store opened in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina in 1921 by Lucius S. Lowe and grown into a chain by his son-in-law Carl Buchan after World War II. It operates a large network of warehouse-format home improvement stores across the United States and Canada, selling building materials, appliances, tools and home decor, and is the second-largest home improvement retailer in the country after Home Depot.
