Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad

The Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad connected Salt Lake City, Utah, and Los Angeles, California, through Las Vegas, Nevada. It was incorporated in Utah in 1901 as the San Pedro, Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad, largely the project of Montana mining baron William Andrews Clark, and took the LA and SL name in 1916 after completing its main line, the Salt Lake Route, in 1905. Union Pacific Railroad acquired a half interest in 1903 and bought out Clark's remaining share in 1921; the corporation existed on paper until 1988, and its tracks remain in use today as Union Pacific subdivisions.
