London Stock Exchange Group plc is a British financial markets infrastructure and data company headquartered in London, operator of the London Stock Exchange, one of the oldest stock exchanges in the world. The exchange's own origins trace to informal trading among stockbrokers at London coffeehouses in the late seventeenth century, with the institution formally established under its own rules in 1801. The modern group diversified well beyond exchange trading over the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, and in 2021 it completed the acquisition of Refinitiv, a major financial data and analytics business, transforming London Stock Exchange Group into one of the world's largest providers of financial market data alongside its traditional exchange, clearing, and index operations.
