LG Electronics is a South Korean multinational corporation specializing in consumer electronics and major home appliances, headquartered at the LG Twin Tower in Yeouido, Seoul. It was founded in October 1958 as GoldStar to supply domestically made electronics and appliances in postwar Korea, and took its current name after merging with Lucky Chemical and GoldStar Cable in 1995 to become part of LG Corporation, South Korea's fourth largest conglomerate, which still holds a 33 percent stake. The company operates through Home Appliance Solution, Media Entertainment Solution, Vehicle Solution and Eco Solution divisions, making products such as OLED televisions, refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners, monitors, laptops and automotive electronics across 128 operations worldwide with about 83,000 employees, and ranks as the world's second largest television manufacturer behind Samsung Electronics while remaining the largest shareholder of LG Display.
