Kingfisher plc is a British multinational retailing company headquartered in London, England, operating over 1,800 stores across seven countries under brands including B&Q, Castorama, Brico Depot and Screwfix. The company originated as Paternoster Stores Ltd in 1982 to carry out a leveraged buyout of the British Woolworths chain, was renamed Woolworth Holdings plc, and took its current name in December 1989. It employs about 70,000 people, is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
