KDDI Corporation is a Japanese telecommunications company headquartered in Tokyo, formed in 2000 through the three-way merger of DDI Corporation, Kokusai Denshin Denwa (KDD, Japan's former international telecom monopoly) and IDO Corporation. Operating its mobile network under the au brand, it is Japan's second-largest mobile carrier by subscribers, behind NTT Docomo and ahead of SoftBank Corp, and it also provides fixed-line, internet and satellite communication services.
