Kansas City Southern Railway is an American railroad founded in 1887 by entrepreneur Arthur Stilwell, built to connect Kansas City to the Gulf of Mexico port of Port Arthur, Texas that Stilwell himself founded. It grew into a Class I freight railroad distinguished among its American peers by its extensive Mexican operations, run through its subsidiary Kansas City Southern de Mexico. In a 2021 to 2023 merger with Canadian Pacific, it became part of Canadian Pacific Kansas City, the first single railroad to directly connect Canada, the United States and Mexico.
