Italgas S.p.A. is an Italian energy infrastructure company, founded in 1837, that operates mainly in gas distribution and describes itself as a network tech company also active in water services, energy efficiency and IT. After ENI acquired it in 1967, Italgas helped convert Italy's gas network to natural gas through the 1970s and beyond. It was delisted in 2003 when ENI consolidated its gas operations and returned to public trading in 2016. Following its 2024 to 2025 acquisition of the competitor 2i Rete Gas, Italgas became Europe's largest gas distribution operator, serving more than 12 million customers across more than 150,000 kilometers of pipeline in Italy and Greece, and it also runs water services through its NEPTA subsidiary for about 6.3 million people in regions including Lazio, Sicily and Campania.
