Interfax is a Russian news agency headquartered in Moscow, founded in September 1989 by Mikhail Komissar and colleagues from Radio Moscow's international broadcasting service during the Gorbachev era as the first non-governmental channel of political and economic news about the Soviet Union. Operating as a private company with more than 70 bureaus worldwide, it publishes upwards of 3,000 stories a day covering general and political news alongside business and market data.
