Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited is a Chinese state-owned bank headquartered in Beijing, formed in 1984 when it was split off from the People's Bank of China to take over commercial banking functions while the central bank retained its regulatory role. It is the largest bank in the world by total assets, and along with China's other major state-owned banks forms the core of China's banking system.
