Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. is an American shipbuilding company headquartered in Newport News, Virginia, the largest military shipbuilder in the United States. It was spun off from Northrop Grumman as an independent public company in 2011, carrying forward two historic shipyards: Newport News Shipbuilding, founded in 1886 by railroad magnate Collis P. Huntington, and Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Huntington Ingalls builds every aircraft carrier in the United States Navy and a substantial share of the Navy's submarines and surface warships, making it a cornerstone supplier of the American naval fleet.
