Holsten Brewery is a German brewing company founded in 1879 in the Altona-Nord quarter of Hamburg. Its Holsten Pils was first imported into the United Kingdom in 1952, a launch credited with creating the UK's premium packaged lager market, and the company grew to operate seven breweries across Germany before its acquisition by the Carlsberg Group in 2004 for 735 million pounds.
