Hermes International S.C.A., trading as Hermes, is a French luxury goods company headquartered in Paris, founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermes as a harness and saddlery workshop serving European noble households. The company remains substantially controlled by descendants of its founder and expanded over generations from equestrian leather goods into a broad luxury house encompassing leather bags and accessories, including its renowned Birkin and Kelly handbags, silk scarves, ready-to-wear fashion, watchmaking, jewellery, perfumery and, since 2020, a dedicated beauty division. Hermes has cultivated a reputation for artisanal manufacturing and deliberately limited production of its most sought-after leather goods, which trade at a substantial premium and sustain long waiting lists.
