HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is described as the world's largest shipbuilding company and a major heavy equipment manufacturer, headquartered in Ulsan, South Korea, and founded in 1972 by Chung Ju yung, the founder of the Hyundai Group. It is counted among South Korea's Big Three shipbuilders alongside Hanwha and Samsung Heavy Industries, building crude oil carriers, LNG carriers, container ships and naval vessels, and it has expanded into manufacturing rocket launch pad infrastructure for South Korea's Nuri KSLV II space program and recently gained qualification to work on United States Navy maintenance and repair contracts. In late 2025 the company merged with HD Hyundai Mipo to consolidate its position as the world's leading shipbuilder.
