Haras Nationaux was the French public administrative body responsible for regulating and administering horse and donkey breeding in France, overseeing twenty-two regional stud farms across the country. It operated as a branch of the Ministry of Agriculture from 1870 until becoming an independent government department in 1999, then was merged in 2010 into the newly formed Institut francais du cheval et de l'equitation. Its twenty-two stud farms were privatized in 2013, with government salary support continuing at about 75 percent of employee pay until it ended in 2022, and the former studs now belong to the European State Studs Association rather than a single centralized body.
