Turkiye Halk Bankasi, known as Halkbank, is a Turkish bank headquartered in Istanbul, established on June 8, 1933 as a public bank aimed at supporting tradesmen and small businesses. Over the twentieth century it grew by absorbing smaller public banks and became a publicly traded company while remaining majority owned by the Turkish state through the Turkey Wealth Fund. It offers vehicle, housing, consumer and commercial lending, and during the 2010s it was the subject of a number of scandals that led to the arrest of some of its executives.
