Grupo Financiero Galicia S.A. is a Buenos Aires-based financial services holding company built around Banco de Galicia y Buenos Aires, founded in 1905 by a consortium led by Galician jeweller and clockmaker Manuel Escasany. It is the largest privately owned domestic bank in Argentina and the country's fifth-largest banking operation overall, offering retail and offshore banking, insurance, investment, mortgage, consumer finance, credit card and warehousing services. The company trades as GGAL on both the Buenos Aires Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq, is a MERVAL index component, and is controlled by EBA Holding, through which the Escasany, Ayerza and Braun families hold a minority of shares but a majority of voting power via multiple-voting Class A stock.
