Grifols, S.A. is a Spanish multinational pharmaceutical and healthcare company headquartered near Barcelona, one of the world's largest producers of medicines derived from human blood plasma. It was founded in 1909 in Barcelona, originally as a clinical laboratory, and developed over the twentieth century into a major plasma-products manufacturer, remaining substantially controlled by the founding Grifols family even after its international expansion. The company operates a large network of plasma collection centers, concentrated heavily in the United States, supplying raw plasma for its manufacturing of treatments used in immunology, hematology and critical care. Grifols also maintains diagnostics and hospital products divisions alongside its core plasma-derived medicines business.
