Greene King is a British pub and brewing company founded in 1799 by Benjamin Greene in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, taking its modern form through an 1887 merger with Frederick William King's brewing business. It operates around 3,100 pubs, restaurants and hotels, and its Greene King IPA and Abbot Ale rank among Britain's third and fifth highest-selling cask ales; its 2015 acquisition of Spirit Pub Company for 773.6 million pounds made it the largest managed pub company in the United Kingdom. Formerly listed on the London Stock Exchange, Greene King was acquired by Hong Kong-based CK Asset Holdings in October 2019.
