Goldman Sachs is an American multinational investment bank founded in 1869 by Marcus Goldman, later joined by his son-in-law Samuel Sachs, headquartered in New York City. It is one of the largest global investment banks, providing investment banking, securities trading and asset management services to corporations, governments and institutional clients. Long structured as a private partnership, it converted to a public company through an initial public offering in 1999, and became a bank holding company during the 2008 financial crisis to gain access to Federal Reserve support.
