The Georgia Air Line Railroad was chartered in 1856 to build a line connecting Atlanta, Georgia with the Upstate region of South Carolina, but the company never laid any track before it merged in June 1870 with the Air Line Railroad of South Carolina, under the Richmond and Danville Railroad, to form the Atlanta and Richmond Air Line Railway.
