Genesis Energy

Genesis Energy is a New Zealand electricity generation and retail company that also sells natural gas and LPG, generating power from hydroelectric, thermal and wind sources. Headquartered in Auckland, it produces about 15 percent of the country's electricity and holds roughly 23 percent of the electricity retail market and 33 percent of the natural gas retail market. The company was formed in 1999 out of the breakup of the state owned Electricity Corporation of New Zealand, is listed on the New Zealand and Australian stock exchanges, and remains 51 percent owned by the New Zealand government.
