Gate Petroleum is a privately held, diversified corporation headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, founded on July 9, 1960, by Herbert Hill Peyton, who started with a single gas station on the north side of the city, the name Gate coming from the historical slogan of Jacksonville, The Gateway to Florida. Filling stations and convenience stores remain the foundation of the business, but the company has expanded into petroleum transport, precast concrete manufacturing, hospitality and real estate development, and as of 2022 it ranked as Florida's 11th largest corporation with 1.44 billion dollars in annual sales and about 3,500 employees.
