Gap Inc.

The Gap, Inc., commonly known as Gap Inc., is an American multinational clothing and accessories retailer headquartered in San Francisco, California, founded in 1969 by Donald and Doris Fisher with a single store selling Levi's jeans and records aimed at bridging the generation gap between young customers and mainstream retailers, which gave the company its name. Gap Inc. operates several retail divisions under one corporate umbrella, most prominently the namesake Gap brand alongside Banana Republic, Old Navy and Athleta, and it has historically been one of the largest specialty apparel retailers in the United States. The company has faced years of declining sales at its flagship Gap brand even as Old Navy grew into its largest and most consistently profitable division.
