Frontline plc is described as the world's fifth largest oil tanker shipping company, based in Limassol, Cyprus, and controlled by John Fredriksen. Its primary business is the seaborne transportation of crude oil. The company originated as Frontline AB, established in Sweden in 1985 and listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange from 1989 to 1997. Under Fredriksen's leadership Frontline absorbed several competitors, including London and Overseas Freighters in 1997, ICB in 1999 and Golden Ocean in 2000, becoming the world's largest tanker company. As of 2008 its fleet included VLCC, Suezmax and Suezmax OBO carriers, 82 tankers in total with 18 more on order.
