FromSoftware is a Japanese video game developer and publisher founded by Naotoshi Zin in 1986, originally as a business software developer before releasing its first game, King's Field, in 1994. The studio built its early identity around the Armored Core mecha shooter series before achieving international acclaim in the 2010s with Demon's Souls and the Dark Souls trilogy, action role-playing games noted for high difficulty and environmental storytelling that gave rise to the Soulslike subgenre. Later titles built on that reputation include Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring. Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of several of these titles, has served as the company's representative director and president since 2014, and FromSoftware is majority owned by Kadokawa Corporation.
