Forty-second Street and Grand Street Ferry Railroad

The Forty-second Street and Grand Street Ferry Railroad was a horse-drawn streetcar company chartered on 16 February 1862 to run a line across Manhattan from the 42nd Street Ferry on the Hudson River to the Grand Street Ferry on the East River. Its cars were identified by a distinctive light green light, and rather than continuing as a single through line, its trackage was eventually split among several crosstown streetcar routes, including the 42nd, 34th, 23rd and 14th Street Crosstown Lines. By 1893 the Metropolitan Crosstown Railroad had leased the line, which passed into the Metropolitan Street Railway in 1894 and was later leased to the Interurban Street Railway in 1902.
