Energy Transfer LP is an American midstream energy company headquartered in Dallas, Texas, operating one of the largest networks of crude oil, natural gas and natural gas liquids pipelines in the United States. It was founded in 1996 as a small intrastate natural gas pipeline operator in Texas and expanded rapidly over the following decades, largely through acquisitions, into a sprawling interstate pipeline, storage and terminal network under the long-time leadership of co-founder Kelcy Warren. Energy Transfer gained wide public attention for constructing the Dakota Access Pipeline, which carries crude oil from North Dakota's Bakken formation and drew sustained protests over its route near the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, and the company continues to transport a large share of the natural gas and crude oil moving across the American Midwest and Gulf Coast.
