Enel S.p.A. is an Italian multinational producer and distributor of electricity and gas, headquartered in Rome. It was established as a public body at the end of 1962, became a limited company in 1992, and was privatized in 1999 as Italy's energy market opened up. Enel generates and distributes electric power and supplies natural gas to customers across many countries, and as a publicly traded company on the Borsa Italiana it ranks among the world's largest energy companies by revenue, second only to China's State Grid Corporation.
