The Emirates News Agency, known by its abbreviation WAM, is the official news agency of the United Arab Emirates, established in November 1976 and beginning operations on 18 June 1977 from its headquarters in Abu Dhabi. It operates as a state media entity under the government of the United Arab Emirates and, as of 2025, sits under the National Media Authority, a federal body created that year by decree to consolidate the media institutions of the country. WAM maintains a network of foreign correspondents and distributes text, photographs, video, infographics and documentaries in multiple languages, including a Hebrew language service launched in April 2021, covering political, economic and development news of the UAE. It belongs to several international news bodies, among them the Federation of Arab News Agencies and the Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies, and holds cooperation agreements with agencies including Xinhua, Bernama and Anadolu.
