Emirates is the flag carrier of Dubai and the larger of the United Arab Emirates' two major long-haul airlines, headquartered at Dubai International Airport and wholly owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai, an arm of the Dubai government. Founded in 1985 with just two aircraft leased from Pakistan International Airlines, Emirates grew into the largest airline in the Middle East and one of the largest in the world by international passenger traffic, built on a hub-and-spoke strategy connecting six continents through Dubai. It operates the world's largest fleet of both the Airbus A380 superjumbo and the Boeing 777, and it is not a member of any of the three global airline alliances, instead relying on a wide network of bilateral partnerships and codeshare agreements.
