Eletrobras

Eletrobras, formally Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras S.A., is a major Brazilian electric utilities company founded on 11 June 1962 and headquartered in Rio de Janeiro. It is the biggest power utility company in Latin America, the tenth largest in the world, and the fourth largest clean energy company in the world, and is the largest renewable energy producer in the southern hemisphere. It holds stakes in a number of Brazilian electric companies, generating about 40 percent and transmitting 69 percent of the electric supply of Brazil, with generating capacity of about 51,000 megawatts, mostly from hydroelectric plants. The Brazilian federal government owned a 52 percent stake in the company until June 2022, after which the remaining shares traded on B3, part of the Ibovespa index, as well as on the Nasdaq Stock Market and the Madrid Stock Exchange. The company was renamed Axia Energia after its 2025 privatization process, though it remains commonly known as Eletrobras.
