Eisai Co., Ltd. is a Japanese pharmaceutical company headquartered in Tokyo, founded in 1941. Eisai developed donepezil, marketed as Aricept, one of the most widely prescribed treatments for Alzheimer's disease symptoms following its approval in the late 1990s. More recently, Eisai co-developed lecanemab, marketed as Leqembi, with the American biotechnology company Biogen, minted in this same wave, an antibody treatment aimed at slowing the progression of early Alzheimer's disease rather than only treating its symptoms. Eisai maintains a particular research focus on neurology and oncology alongside its broader pharmaceutical portfolio.
