Eel River Brewing Company is a brewery founded in 1994 in Fortuna, California, and owned and operated by Margaret Frigon and Ted Vivatson. It became the first certified organic brewery in central Humboldt County and, in 1999, one of the first certified organic breweries in the United States, with its Amber Ale as the first beer produced under that certification. The company operated its original brewpub in Fortuna from 1994 to 2007, then relocated production to a former redwood mill in Scotia, California, where output had nearly doubled to more than 7,000 barrels a year by 2009, and today it distributes to more than half of U.S. states as well as Canada, Mexico, and Brazil.
