E.ON SE is a German electric utility company headquartered in Essen, formed in 2000 by the merger of the German industrial conglomerates VEBA and VIAG. It is one of the largest investor-owned electric utility companies in Europe, and following a major 2016 restructuring that spun off its conventional power generation business as the separate company Uniper, E.ON has focused on energy networks, retail energy supply and customer energy solutions.
