DuPont is an American chemical and materials company headquartered in Delaware, formed in 1802 by the French-American chemist and industrialist Eleuthere Irenee du Pont de Nemours, initially as a major supplier of gunpowder. Across the twentieth century the company developed many widely used polymers, including nylon, neoprene, Teflon, Kevlar and Tyvek, and for a long period was the largest chemical company in the world by sales before spinning off its commodity chemicals operations as Chemours in 2015.
