The Detroit, Toledo and Ironton Railroad was a freight and passenger railroad connecting Detroit, Michigan with Ironton, Ohio by way of Toledo, Ohio, operating from 1905 to 1983. Henry Ford purchased the railroad in 1920 for its strategic value to his automobile manufacturing operations in Dearborn and made it an efficient, profitable operation before selling it to a Pennsylvania Railroad subsidiary in 1929. At its peak in 1970 it operated 478 miles of road on 762 miles of track; it became part of Penn Central in 1968 and was fully absorbed into the Grand Trunk Western Railroad by December 1983.
