Corris Railway

The Corris Railway was a narrow gauge railway based in Corris, on the border of Merionethshire and Montgomeryshire in mid Wales, which opened in 1859 as a horse drawn tramway carrying slate from local quarries to river wharves. Steam locomotives were introduced in 1878 and passenger services began in 1883, with the Great Western Railway acquiring the line in 1929 chiefly to control its bus routes. British Railways closed the unprofitable line in August 1948 after flood damage, though a preservation society later reopened a heritage section between Corris and Maespoeth Junction in 2002.
