Corning Incorporated is an American multinational technology company, founded in 1851 and historically operated as Corning Glass Works, specializing in glass, ceramics, and related materials and technologies including advanced optics for industrial and scientific applications. During the twentieth century it became known for consumer products such as CorningWare, Visions Pyroceram cookware, Corelle tableware, and Pyrex bakeware, before divesting these consumer lines in 1998. The company today maintains five major business divisions, display technologies, environmental technologies, life sciences, optical communications, and specialty materials, and created Gorilla Glass, widely used in smartphone screens; it has been one of the main suppliers to Apple Inc. since working with Steve Jobs in 2007 to develop the iPhone.
