Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos, known as CPTM, is the state-owned rapid transit and commuter rail operator for the Sao Paulo metropolitan area in Brazil, created on May 28, 1992 by merging existing railroads in Greater Sao Paulo and headquartered in the city of Sao Paulo. It is overseen by the State Secretariat of Metropolitan Transport, operates a network using 1,600 millimetre track gauge with 3,000 volt DC overhead electrification, and carries about two million passengers a day. Originally running five lines, it transferred Lines 8 and 9 to the private operator ViaMobilidade in 2021 and continues to operate Lines 10, 11, 12 and 13 as part of what is described as Latin America's largest metropolitan rail transport network.
