Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de Grande Banlieue

The Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de Grande Banlieue was a French railway company operating suburban lines in the Seine-et-Oise department west of Paris in the early to mid twentieth century, including a 1,435 mm line from Pontoise to Poissy built in 1912 and nicknamed Le tacot that took about one hour twenty minutes to travel and linked towns along the River Oise. The company initially focused on passenger traffic and later attempted freight service carrying vegetables from local farmers to the Les Halles market in Paris. Rising automobile and bus use undercut its ridership, and most of its lines closed between 1929 and 1953, with train service ending entirely by 1933.
