Columbia and Greenville Railroad

The Columbia and Greenville Railroad was a South Carolina railroad that operated in the late nineteenth century, connecting the cities of Columbia and Greenville. It began as the Greenville and Columbia Railroad and was reorganized under the Columbia and Greenville name in 1880 after a foreclosure sale. From 1886 the Richmond and Danville Railroad leased the line, and in that same year its track was converted from 5 foot gauge to 4 feet 9 inch gauge. The railroad lost its independent existence in 1894, when it was absorbed into the newly formed Southern Railway.
