Codorniu is a winery founded in 1551 near Barcelona, Spain, by Jaume Codorniu, and is one of the oldest wineries in the world and one of the oldest companies in Spain. In 1659 the Codorniu family united through marriage with the Raventos family, and in 1872 Josep Raventos used the traditional method to produce Spains first cava, the countrys sparkling wine, the product Codorniu remains best known for as the oldest and second largest cava producer. The wineries cellars at Sant Sadurni dAnoia, built between 1895 and 1915 to a design by the Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, were declared a National Monument of Historical and Artistic Interest in 1976.
